‘People may ask themselves, ‘What can I do?’ but little things can make a big difference – when we work together. When people say ‘I can’, Fairtrade can.’
— Michael Gidney, Chief Executive, Fairtrade Foundation
To maximise our impact, we need a best-in-class organisation that works with the global Fairtrade system as one movement.
And so in 2015 we continued investing in building an inspiring and effective organisation in the UK with some significant achievements. For starters, our staff engagement score reached 77.5 percent, an increase of seven percent on 2013. We also maintained our Investors in People and Living Wage employer accreditation, rolled out staff training opportunities, supported volunteers (who gave an incredible 7,000 hours of their time to work with us) and improved our IT systems, including a new licensee portal.
We also invested time in planning Fairtrade’s global five-year strategy Changing Trade, Changing Lives, so that we can deliver even greater impact for farmers and workers in the future.
Our five-year strategy in the UK – Fairtrade Can, I Can – sets out four goals to take us to 2020. It aims to offer more – more benefits for farmers and workers; more options for companies; more ways for individual members of the public and local communities to contribute to change; and more insight and ideas to take to governments and policymakers.
As we move forward, we invite all of you to reach out and walk with us on this next exciting stage of our Fairtrade journey.
Our strategy has four goals:
• Focus on impact
• Make fairtrade personal
• Improve and innovate
• Strengthen our organisation
